from "Home"
Built in 1868, this country Victorian
was home to Dr.
and Mrs. Stephen Hutchinson. He was the first
physician to live and practice in Northport. A very
kind man, he extended necessary medical attention
to all in need, including curing the local indian tribe
of a smallpox epidemic. His caring nature extended
to the land where he grew the beautiful Copper
Beech trees still vibrant today as well as many other
plantings not indigenous to the area.
If you elect to leave the grounds, Northport's
location on beautiful Grand Traverse Bay with
its marina, G. Marsten Dame Marina, is a
very short walk away. Delightful free concerts
performed Friday evenings during the summer under the park's gazebo are
reminiscent of earlier times. Northport is noted for its amazing gift shops,
galleries, and gourmet cuisine. Grand Traverse Lighthouse in Leelanau State
Park, Peterson Park heralded for its beautiful sunsets, and the Leelanau
Sands Casino, plus world-class wineries, cherry and apple orchards, and
challenging professional level golf courses are a short drive away.
Days Gone By is open year around by reservation during Michigan's four beautiful seasons. Check out our Rooms page for more details on our exquisite choice of sleeping quarters.
